Getting Started
For Android users, you can ignore this documentation. Because WhaleDown for Android already has a built-in browser.
WhaleDown is a web video download software that needs to work with a browser. To get started, you'll need to launch a browser through the home
screen.
The following browsers are supported by WhaleDown for desktop,
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge (Not the Edge legacy version)
- Brave Browser (The latest version of Brave has a bug that crashes when starting)
1. Install a Browser
We recommend downloading a browser from the official website of the browser mentioned above.
Additionally, you can install the browser via the command line,
# Install Google Chrome
winget install -e --id Google.Chrome
# Install Microsoft Edge
winget install -e --id Microsoft.Edge
# Install Brave browser
winget install -e --id Brave.Brave
Once a browser is successfully installed, WhaleDown will display its version information.
Furthermore, you can also use more browser features. For example,
- Install extensions
- Manage bookmarks
- Sync settings and themes
These browsers need to be installed at the default location. That way WhaleDown can discover them.
2. Select a Browser
By default, WhaleDown will select the browser you have already followed in order from left to right. The selected browser will be highlighted and checked.
Microsoft Edge
131.0.2903.99
If you want to choose another browser that's already installed, you can click it's icon on WhaleDown 's home screen.
3. Launch a Browser
All you need to do is enter a URL or keyword in the url input on the home page. WhaleDown will open it in the browser of your choice.
Also, you can double click on the browser icon to launch it. At this point, the browser will display a blank page.
When a browser was launched, it will be displayed on the right side of the screen. WhaleDown will move to the left side of the screen, and its width will be narrower.

The browser may take a few seconds to launch. It depends on the performance of your computer.
What's next
Please browse pages containing video/audio
in the opened browser. Sometimes, you need to manually skip ads and click to play videos.
Next, you'll need to wait patiently for the detector to discover the video/audio.
Only a browser opened through WhaleDown can communicate with WhaleDown. Browsers opened by other means cannot communicate with WhaleDown.
